Chloé Valdary, founder of The Theory of Enchantment, will address Weber State University on Tuesday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. in a live-streamed presentation and Q&A.

Valdary presents as the Fall 2020 featured speaker of WSU’s Browning Presents! series, hosted by the Telitha E. Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities. Tickets to the virtual event are free to the public.

Valdary’s Theory of Enchantment curriculum is lauded as a social and emotional learning program that promotes self-love and invites students to explore what connects them as human beings. Valdary has lectured at universities across the United States, contributed to the nation’s most prominent newspapers and publications and recently delivered a TED Talk titled “How Love Can Help Repair Social Inequality.”

The training program itself is an antiracism course that “engages clients in the study of pop culture and literary texts authored by some of the greatest moral, philosophical and intellectual giants of our time,” according to its website.

The hour-long Browning Presents! event will include a 45-minute presentation and time for questions. WSU Dance Area professor jo Blake will moderate the discussion.

“The opportunity to meet with Chloé Valdary is an experience that I believe the Weber State community and Ogden will benefit from for a number of reasons,” says Blake. “Chloé's Theory of Enchantment, in connection with antiracism, development of positive interpersonal relationships and humanistic social justice, is a much-needed conversation at this time."

Blake states that Valdary’s research amplifies many attributes that college communities have expressed desire for in recent months. “My hope is that during this time in which we are inundated with online learning and electronic consumption, students, faculty and staff will take a moment to settle down, be present and listen to not only our conversation but to participate in the forum that is provided for their voices to be heard."
