The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art is proud to present Growing Rocks, an exhibition of ceramic works by Brad Evan Taylor. Taylor's deep interest in natural processes that occur on a geological time-scale, like sedimentary formation and volcanic activity, inform his practice in the studio and kiln. He produces large-scale porcelain masses using organic materials such as strands of rice straw, which disintegrate in the firing process, leaving behind fossilized patterns on the porcelain's surface. As a result, Taylor's porcelain masses resemble rocks grown by an artist's hand.

This exhibition in the Museum's Street Gallery will bring together a selection of new and recent work by Taylor from across his oeuvre, including Pyroplastic Deformation (2019), Small Masses Paired (2018), and Compressed Mass (2016). The Museum has also published a book in conjunction with the exhibition, made possible by sponsorship from Visit Salt Lake, that will be available for purchase in the Museum's Art Shop.
