Day of the Dead: Festival of Altars

Day of the Dead: Festival of Altars

Presented by Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts at Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts (SUU)

From October 26 through November 7, the community is invited to celebrate Day of the Dead at The Beverley Taylor Sorensen Center for the Arts. During the two-week period, visitors can enjoy cultural music, decorations, altars, and pick up a free take-home art kit.

Each art kit comes with materials and instructions to create different elements of an altar to honor a loved one who has passed away. The activities come together to create your own altar. Art kits are free while supplies last.

Three altars will be on display on the Sam and Diane Stewart Family Foundation. One altar honors the life and death of Jimmie F. Jones. Another altar is a community altar put together by SUU Alumni and Community Relations. The last altar is arranged by SUU Languages & Philosophy.

An SUU student juried art show will be on display in the SUMA Education Classroom during the two-week period. Come see the work of SUU students as they highlight different elements of altars.

This event is free and open to the public through collaboration with SUU Art and Design, SUU Languages and Philosophy, SUU Alumni and Community Relations, The Garth and Jerri Frehner Museum of Natural History, and Utah Shakespeare Festival. Special thanks to our sponsor Artisans Gallery.
