ANIMALIA SUM (Sundance Film Fest 2020)
By Bianca Kennedy & Felix Kraus | 2019 | 9 min | VR
A riff on the classic British nature documentary, this optimistic interactive VR experience takes on the future of evolution and the apparent inevitability of insects becoming humanity’s main food source. Fashioned out of animated, watercolored, handcrafted miniatures, ANIMALIA SUM is a peculiar and surreal rabbit hole that takes audiences through a lesson of the medicinal and nutritional values of insects, as well as what it means to be an insect in the new food economy.
The Summation Of Force (Sundance Film Fest 2018)
By Narelle Autio, Trent Parke & Matthew Bate | 2017 | 14 min | VR
In a moonlit suburban backyard, two brothers battle one another in an otherworldly game of cricket in this stunning black and white live-action study of the motion, physics, and psychology of sport. Created by photographers Trent Parke and Narelle Autio, in collaboration with filmmaker Matthew Bate, this VR artwork offers a cosmic, darkly beautiful, and dreamlike metaphor for life.
Kaiju Confidential (Sundance Film Fest 2019)
By Thomas O'Donnell, Ethan Shaftel & Piotr Karwas | 2019 | 5 min | VR
The Godzilla genre is flipped on its head when we get up close and personal with these towering animated monsters. Rampaging across a sprawling Japanese metropolis, destroying everything in their wake in epic fashion, their equally huge neuroses and insecurities take the bigger hit. Paul F. Tompkins and Blake Anderson voice one of the funniest VR series of the year.
Hominidae (Sundance Film Fest 2020)
By Brian Andrews | 2019 | 6 min | VR
The “arachnid hominid” is an original species comprised of photo-composites built from human and veterinary X-ray films—they are intelligent creatures with human and spider physiology. Hominidae follows the life of one arachnid hominid as she struggles to raise her young in a hostile environment. This emotional and exquisitely crafted experience is set in a world of X-ray visibility and wild anatomical re-imagination, where creatures have evolved in surprising ways.
