Disney’s FREAKY FRIDAY

Disney’s FREAKY FRIDAY

Presented by SCERA Center for Arts / SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre at SCERA Center for the Arts

A funny and unexpectedly emotional new musical based on the hit Disney films! Presented by SCERA’s award-winning high school company, Acting UP.

When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter. Presented by SCERA’s award-winning high school company, Acting UP. Directed by Kathryn Laycock Little. Choreography by Brodee Ripple.

Based on the beloved 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, and featuring a book by Bridget Carpenter – the co-executive producer and writer on the beloved TV hits, “Friday Night Lights” and “Parenthood” – and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey – the Pulitzer Prize-winning composers of Next to Normal and If/Then. Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

COVID-19: As this show is indoors in our 450-seat theatre at SCERA Center for the Arts, we are doing a two-pronged approach: The Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays shows will be MASKS REQUIRED and seating will be “shoulder to shoulder.” The two Tuesdays night shows will be distanced, reduced capacity nights for those who are not comfortable with a full theatre. We will block off every other row and keep three chairs between groups on rows. Because seating will be distanced, face coverings are strongly encouraged, but especially as you enter, get seated, at concessions and in the restrooms. Audiences for these Tuesday performances will be reduced to about 33% of full capacity, so tickets will go quickly. If state and county health guidelines change, we will update our policies accordingly. WE EXPECT ALL ATTENDEES TO BE RESPECTFUL OF THE SAFETY AND COMFORT OF OUR STAFF AND GUESTS.
