People's State of the Union Story Circle

People's State of the Union Story Circle

Presented by Mestizo Institute of Culture and Arts (MICA) at Online/Virtual Space

Each year the President delivers a State of the Union Address. They boast about their achievements and share their vision for the future of our democracy. But what if we the people could give our own address? What if we could share our stories and visions for a more just future? This month, people across the country are doing just that with the People's State of the Union.

Join Mestizo Institute for Culture and Arts on February 25th to share stories with friends and neighbors. Afterwards, you can upload your story (with or without your name) to the People’s State of the Union Story Portal, along with stories from across the country. The stories will be used to inspire art, performance, and action.

The People's State of the Union is coordinated by the US Department of Art and Culture (not a government agency) with MassCreative and The Theater Offensive. They are inviting communities all across the country to to come together, to share our stories and visions for a more just future, and to confront the interlocking crises of systemic racism, eviction, poverty, access to healthcare, and more laid bare by COVID-19. While our communities have suffered this past year, we also believe that our communities hold the keys to our survival. For more info on the People's State of the Union visit usdac.us
