Building a Martian Helicopter: Celebrating Women In Science and Engineering

Building a Martian Helicopter: Celebrating Women In Science and Engineering

Presented by Clark Planetarium at Online/Virtual Space

Celebrate women in science and engineering as NASA aeromechanics engineer, Dorsa Shirazi, speaks about the Mars helicopter, Ingenuity.

Girl Scouts of Utah and Clark Planetarium are teaming up to connect you with an amazing NASA female, Dorsa Shirazi, for World Engineering Day. Shirazi is an aeromechanics engineer who will speak about her exciting work that contributed to the first Martian helicopter deployed – Ingenuity. She will also discuss her path to become an engineer.
After Shirazi speaks, stay with us for a live engineering activity: Make A Mars Rover. Steffi Lietzke, with Girl Scouts of Utah, will lead a Junior Space Science Badge activity that will challenge you to engineer your own space rover from materials you can find at your house.
For the activity (suitable for Grade 4 and up) you will need:
• Art supplies and found objects to build with. Objects can include paper towel rolls, scraps of paper, clean plastic tubs and lids, chipboard from cereal or snack boxes, straws, wooden skewers, string, pencils, glitter, etc. • Scissors • Glue or masking tape • Paper • Pencils
