Light pollution is the water in which we’ve been boiled, like frogs.
Three decades ago, wilderness travelers were familiar with the Milky Way because they’d seen it before, from their hometowns at night. Nowadays, due to pervasive light pollution, many see starry skies for the first time only when they visit the wilderness.
Lifelong river guide Tom Beckett developed a program for wilderness guides to interpret the night sky for their guests, just as they explain the flora and fauna in daylight. Tom's presentation will explain the program. Better, he’ll take you to a sandbar alongside a wild river at night, show you his favorite dark-sky features, and share some myths, legends, and stories about the constellations. And you can stay in your living rooms.
