German conductor Marc Albrecht, internationally acclaimed for his interpretations of Strauss, makes his Utah Symphony debut.
Mahler believed that a symphony should “embrace everything” and, with his mighty Fifth, he created an entire world.
Though intended as a love note for the composer’s wife, the versatile and heartbreaking Adagietto of Mahler 5 was performed at the funeral of Robert F. Kennedy in 1968, and opens the concert.
The concert concludes with Richard Strauss’ suite Der Bürger als Edelmann, inspired by Molière’s 17th-century satire about social climbing. Filled with brilliant orchestration and dazzling dance movements, this work is not to be missed
