Material Issues: Strategies in 21st Century Craft

Presented by Utah Museum of Contemporary Art at Utah Museum of Contemporary Art

Material Issues: Strategies in 21st Century Craft features fourteen local and national artists who employ craft-based materials, processes, and aesthetics to produce works that address a broad spectrum of issues from the environment to racism and feminism. The range and diversity of artists and artworks included in the exhibition illustrate the versatility of craft-based materials and processes to question, confront, and spark dialogue, subverting the stigmas typically associated with craft-based techniques as purely utilitarian or functional.

Artists in the exhibition include Gina Adams, Thomas Campbell, Elizabeth Clah, Rachel Farmer, Jeffrey Gibson, Raven Half-moon, Jann Haworth, Patrick Dean Hubbell, Ruben Olguin, Horacio Rodriguez, Amanda Smith, Brian Snapp, Danielle Susi, and Rachel Thomander.
