Utah Asian Pacific Islander College Student Summit

As part of the annual interactive college leadership training program that assembles Asian and Pacific Islander students, this year, the Utah Asian Pacific Islander College Student Summit will focus on the recent rise in anti-Asian violence by learning about the history of Asians and Pacific Islanders locally and nationally for the first part and end with a situational awareness training to better prepare attendees on different ways to support our communities during this time.

OCA Utah is co-hosting the event with USU Asian Student Association, SLCC Pacific Unity Association, SLCC Asian Student Association, U of U Pacific Islander Students Association, U of U Asian American Student Association, Weber SU The Ohana Association, Weber SU Asian Student Involvement Association, and JACL Salt Lake as part of OCA National's APIA U programming sponsored by StateFarm. APIA U is an interactive college leadership training program that assembles Asian and Pacific Islander students from Utah and focuses on self-awareness, team-building, and direct action organizing. Participants will be asked to challenge themselves, share their experiences, and develop leadership tools in order to effectively serve as catalysts for change.

Knowing that cultural influences impact how one leads, our mission is to provide student leaders and organizers with a unique training opportunity that keeps in mind the viewpoints and experiences of Asian Pacific Islanders and students of color. Although this aimed and talks about the history and experiences of Asian Pacific Islander communities, it is open to everyone.
