Scandi Spring Fest - Folk Concert

Scandi Spring Fest - Folk Concert

Presented by Salt Lake Scandinavian Music & Dance at E. W. Garbett Center

Peter Michaelsen of Port Townsend, Washington has played folk music for 45 years, for the last 25 focusing on the fiddle music of Scandinavia. He plays both "normal" or “flat” fiddle and the unique Norwegian "hardanger" fiddle and has made numerous trips to "the old country" to study and perform.  In 2002 he was awarded a bronze medal in the Swedish National Competition for folk musicians (the Zornmärket), and he has played with several well-known Swedish groups, including Boda and Falun Spelmanslags.  Peter is on the staff of several annual music/dance camps in the US and has toured nationally—including as musician for a troupe of Swedish dance teachers—and has played for countless dances and workshops.  He is known for his breadth of repertoire, his encyclopedic knowledge of traditional regional styles and harmonies, and his dance fiddling.
