WFWS 46th Annual Exhibition hosted by Utah Watercolor Society

Presented by Utah Watercolor Society at Online/Virtual Space

Utah Watercolor Society hosts the 46th Annual Western Federation of Watercolor Societies Exhibition

The Utah Watercolor Society is proud to host the 46th Annual Western Federation of Watercolor Societies (WFWS) Exhibition. Due to Covid precautions, this year’s exhibition will be held virtually from May 6 through June 23, 2021. Nearly 1,000 paintings were entered into the exhibition from the Western region’s finest watercolor artists. 100 paintings have been selected for the exhibition, which can be viewed online here: https://wfws46exhibition.artcall.org/pages/web-gallery

The Western Federation of Watercolor Societies (WFWS) was formed in 1976 by the New Mexico Watercolor Society and included nine other watercolor societies. The purpose was to make a large and prestigious watercolor exhibition available at low cost to members for small and often isolated watercolor groups.

Today, the WFWS includes over 5,000 artists in ten regional watercolor societies and guilds. The WFWS encourages and recognizes artistic excellence and works to increase visibility of watercolor as an artistic medium through our annual juried exhibitions. The exhibitions are sponsored by WFWS and hosted by a regional member society. Delegates meet annually (usually at the current show) to conduct general business and discuss the next year’s plans.  Each society hosts the show on a rotating basis.

This year’s exhibition was juried and judged for awards by nationally renowned artist, Sarah Yeoman, AWS, PWCS, PWS, DWS. After an early career as a singer /songwriter Sarah eventually discovered the watercolor medium and knew that she had found her clearest creative voice. She has been painting with watercolors for 35 years and is recognized for strength of story and her ability capture the fleeting qualities of light and its influence on form. Her years as a singer/songwriter flow through her process in the melodious and lyrical qualities of her paintings.
