A four hour workshop introducing stitch and itajime shibori techniques and indigo dyeing.
Jane DeGroff will be teaching a shibori and indigo dyeing workshop for beginners. Anyone who has had previous experience with shibori is also welcome. Stitch (nui) and clamp (itajime) resist will be introduced and participants will learn how to create lovely patterns on cloth. Creation and maintenance of a pre-reduced indigo vat will be covered, and vats will be available for use. This event will be held outside at the park in beautiful Historic Spring City. Participants may bring lightweight fabric or cloth items to dye, or blank items may be ordered through Jane ahead of time.
Jane DeGroff has been practicing shibori for nearly a decade and has taught shibori workshops throughout the state. She will teach you the fundamentals of manipulating fabric in order to create a resist before dyeing. Shibori takes years to master, but quite exciting results are attainable by a beginner in a four hour workshop. Participants will leave the workshop with lovely and original textiles.
The price for the workshop is $40 for each participant. Please reserve your spot at least one week before the event by contacting Jane DeGroff. There is a $5 discount for students.
