A murder mystery at the heart of Richard's court sets off a massive struggle for control of England and possession of the crown between two cousins, both grandsons of a king, who could not be more different. Despite the far reaching implications, this story is intensely personal. With swashbuckling knights, snooty lords and some of the most beautiful language in the canon, Shakespeare's spellbinder, Richard II is an excellent history play.
