H2O Today: "Affluent" Water Writings with Helicon West

Presented by Bear River Heritage Area at Elite Hall

While we most commonly use the word affluent to describe a wealth, affluent originally meant “flowing freely or in great quantity,” such as a small stream flowing into a larger river. Join us as we share creative writings that demonstrate creativity that flows freely into the larger river of understanding and art. We will also investigate our relationship with water and the natural world, and explore what we consider wealth and how, in shifting the wealth we prioritize, water might also again be able to flow freely.

This event accompanies H2O Today, a traveling Smithsonian exhibition touring Utah in partnership with Utah Humanities. The tour is part of Think Water Utah, a statewide collaboration and conversation on the critical topic of water presented by Utah Humanities and its partners. H2O Today is organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. It was adapted from an exhibition organized by the American Museum of Natural History (New York) and the Science Museum of Minnesota (St. Paul), in collaboration with Great Lakes Science Center (Cleveland), Field Museum (Chicago), Instituto Sangari (Sao Paulo), National Museum of Australia (Canberra), Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto), San Diego Natural History Museum, and Science Centre Singapore.
