End of the Horizon

End of the Horizon

Presented by Kayenta Arts Foundation at Center for the Arts at Kayenta

Based on the Life of Utah Legend Everett Ruess. This Southern Utah Premiere is Presented by Man of Two Worlds Productions, the Producer of Prior Center hits “Sylvia” and “Art.”

Was Everett Ruess murdered? Was he abducted? Or did he simply wander off into the horizon “to live more intensely and richly?” The mystery of this iconic Utah legend has endured for more than 80 years and is every bit as compelling today.

Everett Ruess was last seen in 1934 near Escalante UT. Since then books, documentaries, and now this riveting play have chronicled his life and strange disappearance in which only his campsite and burros remained as bewildering clues. More than eight decades later his mystery and memory remain firmly entrenched in Utah lore. He has become the quintessential iconic figure of red rock canyon walkabouts and desert explorers everywhere.

But Ruess not only had a passion for nature, he was a talented artist, poet and writer, citing Maynard Dixon, Ansel Adams and Dorothea Lange as artist associates and mentors who richly informed his work. His published poetry and journals and his licensed block prints and watercolors, providing a glimpse into the psyche of this fascinating man, are still available today.

Join us as we explore the captivating story behind the man and myth that is Everett Ruess.
