The Incredible Life and Legacy of Harriet Tubman

Presented by Salt Lake County Library Services at Online/Virtual Space

This Adult Lecture will highlight the life of Harriet Tubman, the most famous conductor of the Underground Railroad, highlighting Tubman’s early years in Dorchester County, Maryland, her skills as an outdoorswoman, her time conducting freedom-seekers through the Underground Railroad, and her later years spent as a suffragette. Discover the importance of faith, family, community, and the landscape to this amazing woman with Maryland’s Gunpowder Falls State Park Ranger Angela Crenshaw.
Crenshaw was the assistant manager of Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park and Visitor Center for more than four years. She is currently the area manager at Gunpowder Falls State Park, the largest park in Maryland.
Crenshaw began working at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in 2008 removing abandoned boats and debris for boating services. She became a Maryland Park Ranger in 2013 and was promoted while working at Elk Neck and Gunpowder Falls State Parks. By 2017, she was proud to become the assistant manager of Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park in beautiful and historic Church Creek, Maryland.
Crenshaw received her master’s degree in energy and environmental policy from the University of Delaware. During her time at Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park, she was able to share both her knowledge of the environment and the legacy of Harriet Tubman, a powerful historic hero, and a motivating force for all women.
Crenshaw’s current focus is managing Gunpowder Falls State Park and leading the Maryland Park Service Interpreting Difficult Histories team.
