This event unveils the four-week "Sacred Images" mural project. "Sacred Images" is CDEA's place-based, multi-disciplinary artists/scholars-in-residence program that uses Utah rock art to inspire student writing, research, and mural production.

Center for Documentary Expression and Art (CDEA), Timpanogos High School, and the Alpine School District partnered to bring two professional artists, poet Jimmy Santiago Baca and visual artist Dimi Macheras, to work with students in order to create a 5'x15' mural. In the first week of the 4-week residency, Jimmy and Dimi shared stories from their lives and helped students express/record their own stories. In the second week, Timpanogos students, Dimi Macheras, and faculty gathered imagery and design ideas to come up with a final design. In the third week, students and faculty fine-tuned the design and started painting the mural. At the end of the fourth week, students, faculty, and Dimi are ready to unveil the mural. They have tried to capture the diversity of the school's student body and create a unified image to represent the school.Hundreds of students contributed stories and images to this project and dozens of students participated in painting the mural. THS students also  designed an interactive website (coding from scratch) to share the stories gathered. Three students from the T-Wolf TV Class are working to produce a short documentary about the mural-making process. THS is very proud of the beautiful work of art being produced and the Deep Learning experiences students have had collaborating and connecting with each other.

CDEA, THS, and Alpine School District would like to invite you to come to the mural unveiling, which will start in the Little Theater at 1:00pm on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022. A few students and CDEA representatives will speak and provide slide and video presentations. Around 1:45pm, participants will walk down to the Commons Area for the official "unveiling" of the mural. We know not everyone can come, but we wanted everyone to know of this unique opportunity.
