“You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself.” -Alan Watts
Psychedelic art developed in the 1960’s and 70’s as a result of the psycadel-led counterculture movement against civil unrest. This developed in tandem with the “hippy” movement, which focused on sexual freedom, feminism and new ideas about spirituality. Additional influence arose from the 1969 Woodstock music festival and the subsequent musical movement that resulted in thousands moving to San Francisco for the “hippy” counterculture. The style of Psychedelic art stems from the earlier Art Nouveau movement with intense colors and flowing forms. Emerging from these historical contexts, “Blooming Euphoria” features a new wave of Psychedelic and abstract art from contemporary Utah artists.
This show features work by Scott Tuckfield, Emma Goldgar, Paige Bedwell, Chase Henson, Stephanie Bain, Isabella Ronda, and many more.
