Renaissance Now Theatre & Film's 2022 season includes a Festival in Repertory of two beloved Shakespeare plays, opening at the Castle Amphitheatre in Provo July 15 & 16th, playing through July 23.  MacBeth-ReDux opens with Much Ado About Nothing, MacBeth playng alternate nights on July 16,19,21,23.

A novel adaptation of "Macbeth" titled "Macbeth-Redux" that focuses on the moral questions of transfer of power.  Adapted and directed by Kathy Curtiss, the production adds brief modern language "off-text" passages that are performed in the style of a "Greek chorus" including thanes and other characters to illuminate unpredictable and confusing events they witness but are unable to change.  The concept of mixed classical & modern texts is meant to illuminate the bystander's view of historic events the way Rosencrantz and Guildenstern illuminated Beckettian themes in Tom Stoppard's takeoff on "Hamlet." The aim is to evoke great feelings of recognition in anyone who has stood helplessly by as our own nation has grappled with the struggle over succession that has been unfolding before our eyes.

MacBeth is played by Zachary Ballard, Lady MacBeth by Mira Kocherans, Marvin Payne plays the noble King Duncan, Casey Copier and Seven Harrison, the doomed King's son's, Adam Argyle and Olympia Pead play Lord and Lady MacDuff, and the Witches by Seven Harrison, Olympia Pead, & Amy Carlin, Abby Tarwater.  The supporting Lords, which go off text to provide humor and commentary for the mounting events, are played by Mason Tarwater, Stephano Puertas, and Gavin Henry.

The strong arm of war is shown through the daring fight direction of Matthew Carlin with double-handed Broadsword battles and individual contests. Fight Captain Adam Argyle, Set Design by Janice Chan, Costumes by Rebecca Nibley, Sound & Lights Rychard Curtiss, Assistant Director Gavin Henry.

The Festival plays at the Castle Theatre located at 1300 E. Center street in Provo. The Castle is open this season, following two years of CoVid-19 restrictions. The shows play nightly, in repertory July 15-23, except Sunday.

MacBeth opens July 16th , and plays 19, 21 & 23.   Much Ado opens July 15th, and plays June 18, 20, & 22

House opens at 7:30 and we advise blankets or chairs.  Curtain is at 8 pm.
