The Hibernian Society of Utah brings us the St. Patrick's Day Parade every year and is excited to announce the first ever Irish fall festival celebration.  Samhain (pronounced Saw-win) is a traditional Irish party celebrated at the harvest and the changing of the seasons.  Ancient Irish and other Celts believed that this time of year allowed the spirit world to be closer to and even have access to the living world.  Festival goers donned costumes with the intent to scare away evil spirits or in some cases fool them to avoid being taken hostage to the underworld.   They also dressed in comical attire to entertain their deceased loved ones......so wear your costume on October 8 at the Gateway.  Prizes will be given to the costumes most likely to scare away evil spirits AND most likely to entertain our dearly departed.

We will also have Irish food and of course, Guinness!  We will also be showing college football games on big screen TV's and have a video game tournament in the works.  Tons of fun and all the shenanigans you expect from the Irish, who not only brought you St. Patrick's Day....but also invented Halloween!!
