Evening for Educators – Monumental Matters

Evening for Educators – Monumental Matters

Presented by Brigham Young University Museum of Art at Brigham Young University Museum of Art

The Evenings for Educators series is one of the longest-running programs of the StateWide Art Partnership (SWAP). These events are held at locations across the state of Utah and feature speakers, hands-on workshops, and educational materials designed to help teachers integrate art into their curriculum. Teachers may receive in-service credit for attending these events.

This session will feature the highlight the works in our exhibition Monumental Matters: Experience and Introspection in Contemporary Art and principles of teaching curriculum through contemporary art.

We often associate size with importance: saying something is grand could refer to its large size, or to its significance. Or both. The contemporary artists represented in Monumental Matters use larger-than-life pieces to encourage viewers to consider the human experience more closely. At the workshops, educators will make these monumental artworks accessible to children of different ages, teachers of varying experience, and model incorporating art into the core curriculum. Come see how working in Windex, soil, metals, and other mixed media can be used to teach core standards!
