de/re construct

Presented by Utah Division of Arts and Museums at Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts

Join us for the exhibition opening reception for de/re construct on November 18, 6 pm - 8 pm. The artworks in this exhibition focus on different subject matter, referencing art history and nature, but share a similar formal quality, with their use of mixed media and the line. Anita Hawkins’s work uses crochet—considered a feminine and domestic art medium–in pieces that respond to Abstract Expressionism, shifting the lens of art history to a feminist perspective. Amy Ungricht’s work references symbiotic relationships in nature, mycorrhizal networks, and geologic time, examining non-human time and communication methods in nature. Both of these artists reject mainstream concepts of history and craft.
