Current Work invites you to the opening of Puffy Coat, a solo exhibition featuring artworks by Andrew Alba. In his latest body of work, Alba meditates on a series of questions about love and intimacy. From the idealism of romance and urgency of desire, to tender bonds between parents and children, to the chaos of heartbreak, he digs into life’s most messy, colorful, and poignant experiences.

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, UT, Andrew Alba is a self-taught artist and descendant of Mexican migrant workers. His nontraditional background is a constant influence as he communicates through the thick, gestural application of  paint and utilization of repurposed, everyday materials in his work. His paintings, drawings, and sculptural artworks are created to evoke an emotional response while commenting on contemporary politics and society.
