The Salt Lake Symphonic Winds will combine for its next concert with the Utah State University Symphonic Band on Friday, April 14 in the Daines Concert Hall on the USU campus. The ensembles will perform separately on this concert, which annually showcases the Symphonic Band (conducted by Director of Bands, Thomas P. Rohrer) and conductors Lane Weaver and Gregory Wheeler.
The Salt Lake Symphonic Winds will perform three high-energy works on this, its third appearance in Logan. Their program begins with Julie Giroux’s Italian Rhapsody; a medley of “The Wedding Tarantella,” “Caderna,” “Quando m’en vo” from La Boheme, and “Finiculi! Finicula!” Following is Ron Nelson’s Savannah River Holiday, a scenic orchestral transcription originally from 1957, and the concluding work is an epic multi-movement musical interpretation of Jules Verne’s novel, The Mysterious Island, by Anton Alcalde. The Symphonic Band program includes Incantation and Dance by John Barnes Chance, Illuminations by David Maslanka, Solas Ane by Samuel Hazo, and Gershwin! by Warren Barker.
