Through visual narratives, My Roots, Your Roots explores the intricacies of authentic and perceived identities. Multimedia artist Aïsha Lehmann uses printmaking techniques to communicate the stories and experiences that form the foundations of self-identity.​

Lehmann uses everyday objects as symbols, inviting the viewer to consider the locations where their identity and individual perspectives formed. Taking inspiration from patterns and plants, as well as her own family tree, Lehmann’s work reveals the branches and roots that connect her to both an internal and external world.

Her original linocuts, screen prints, and lithographs are the result of hours of interviews, research, experimentation, and personal reflection. Lehmann builds upon traditional printmaking techniques by adding collage and hand drawn elements in charcoal and ink.
