The Land through Poetry and Music

The Land through Poetry and Music

Presented by Kimball Art Center at Kimball Art Center

The rich history and heritage of the land and its people as told through cowboy poetry and music. Join us for an evening with cowgirl poet Sam DeLeeuw and Western singer/songwriter David Anderson!

About Sam DeLeeuw:

Sam DeLeeuw has been a part of the agricultural life since she was born. She has raised and herded cows, sheep, horses and two rodeo queen daughters. Sam has trained and shown horses, and was a Horse 4-H Leader for 30 years. In college, she was often the only girl in the ag-curriculum and was a popular date because she’d help with the branding and such. Sam’s background gives her all the ideas for her often humorous, but sometimes tear-evoking stories.

She is a five-time Female Poet of the Year for the International Western Music Association, Humorist of the Year for the Academy of Western Artist, recipient of the WMA poetry album of the year and 2017 IWMA Poetry Book of the Year. Her most treasured rewards are the people she’s met over the years. Raised in Blackfoot, Idaho, she now makes her home in Roy, Utah, and is in demand as poet, humorist, emcee and lively entertainer.

About David Anderson:

My name is David Anderson from Harrisville, Utah. I started playing guitar as a teenager after I realized I couldn’t fit my drum set into the tack room of my horse trailer. My guitar kept me company in between horse races and competitions which deepened my appreciation for Western music and the cowboy way. I have had the privilege to share my music all over the Western United States. Whether we are at a music festival, singing at care centers or simply around the campfire with friends. When I am not playing music I am spending time with my grandchildren and riding horses with my family.
