Frontiers of Science: An Evening with Dr. Venki Ramakrishnan

Frontiers of Science: An Evening with Dr. Venki Ramakrishnan

Presented by Natural History Museum of Utah and University of Utah at Natural History Museum of Utah

The University of Utah College Science will host a free lecture at NHMU by Nobel Prize Laureate Dr. Venki Ramakrishnan on Tuesday, September 26, at 7 p.m.

Dr. Ramakrishnan’s presentation, My Adventures in the Ribosome, will highlight his efforts to determine the structure of the ribosome, which began during his time at the University of Utah from 1995-1999 and resulted in the 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

The ribosome is the ancient and enormous molecular machine that reads genetic information on mRNA to synthesize the proteins that are essential for all life. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about it from one of its most notable researchers, whose career has spanned three continents and both physics and biology.. Following the lecture, guests are invited to tour NHMU's brand-new interactive ribosome exhibit in our Life exhibition.

Doors to the lecture open at 6:30 p.m. The event is free to the public, and RSVPs are encouraged. This event is presented in partnership with the Natural History Museum of Utah and University of Utah Health.
