Join us for a basket making workshop with Richard Graymountain for the 2024 Ways of Understanding and Protecting Land and Water Resources in the Grand Staircase-Escalante Region Symposium on March 23rd at 9 am at the Grand Staircase Escalante Partners Headquarters in Escalante, UT. This free workshop is made possible by the Utah Division of Arts and Museums, Utah Humanities, and Grand Staircase Escalante Partners.

Richard Graymountain was born in 1979 in Tuba City, Arizona, and he was raised on Paiute Mountain. His mother is both Ute and Navajo, and his father is San Juan, Paiute, and Navajo. His grandmother (on his mother's side) was Annie Laura Chief, and his other grandmother (on his father's side) was Bessie Owl. Richard has been weaving baskets since he was 13 years old. He does the traditional ceremonial design in a very tight weave. He's shown his artwork at the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Gallup Inter ceremonial show, and the Heard Museum show.
