Gail Grinnell: ...and there is this lingering thought.

Gail Grinnell: ...and there is this lingering thought.

Presented by Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery at Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery

Join us for Gail Grinnell's …and there is this lingering thought., a large-scale suspended installation using evocative materials including mended, tenderly groomed and repurposed blue plastic tarps as well as meticulous drawings on non-woven, translucent polyester interfacing. Her work is a meditation on the wide-spread proliferation of makeshift tent cities in urban settings and the lone desert shelters she often sees throughout the deserts of the western United States.  Drawing on the haunting history of her childhood community- a military installation tasked with creating plutonium for the Atomic Bomb- she is reminded that she’s caught up in the co-mingling of historical events with personal matters of the heart.

This exhibition asks visitors to contemplate how we attempt to nurture ourselves, one another, and our dreams while standing on the contaminated ground of our own recent past.

This programming is generously supported by Weber County RAMP, the Mark E. & Lola G. Austad Endowment, Jack and Bonnie Wahlen, WSU's Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities, Ogden City Arts, Weber Student Fees and the Utah Division of Arts & Museums.
