The mission of HawkWatch International (HWI) is to conserve our environment through education, long-term monitoring, and scientific research on raptors as indicators of ecosystem health.
Melissa Halvorsen, Education and Outreach Director at HawkWatch International, will explore the reality of human impacts on the planet and consider how environmental education can address this. The model for science communication and outreach comes from Halvorsen’s observations of the greatest teacher of all—nature itself. This program includes up-close encounters with Kotori the Great Horned Owl and Jack the Merlin.
What makes a raptor different from other types of birds? Have you ever wondered what it means to be "eagle-eyed”? Do hawks eat pets? At Sunday morning’s informal raptor gathering, join Halvorsen and two live Raptor Ambassadors for a casual meet-and- greet. This program is open-house style and perfect for families. Bring all your questions, stories, and observations to share—and your cameras!
