Evelyn Cisneros-Legate will discuss how she overcame racial discrimination as the only person of color at San Francisco Ballet and how she utilized her background and cultural understanding to catapult her career.

Considered one of America's leading ballerinas and the first Mexican-American principal ballerina, Ms. Cisneros-Legate is a renowned dance educator, former principal at Boston Ballet School, and recent honoree as Utah Business Woman of the Year. She danced for many years at San Francisco Ballet under the direction of Lew Christensen (brother of Ballet West founder Willam Christensen) and later under Helgi Tomasson. Ms. Cisneros-Legate holds an honorary doctorate from both Mills College and the University of California at Monterey Bay. Today, as director of the Fredrick Quinney Lawson Ballet West Academy, she trains the next generation of dancers and works to ensure the future of the art of ballet.
