Holding degrees in Mathematics and Meteorology and an advanced degree in Atmospheric Physics, I have taken a circuitous route to artistic expression.

A career as a scientist and university professor has served primarily as a diversion to my main goal of spending as much time as possible in deep wilderness.  I began wandering the hardwood forests, swamps, and fields of Northeastern Ohio as a teenager and I have only succeeded in wandering ever further into the mysteries of deep time and far distance found uniquely in the western landscape.

Following the Plein Air traditions of the best western artists, I attempt to capture the changing light and sense of place that can only be accomplished by painting in front of nature whenever practical.  My influences extend from Corot and Inness to contemporary masters such as Lanford Monroe, Jim Wilcox, Richard Schmid, and Clyde Aspevig.
