Bellydance for the Birds Fundraiser

The Wasatch Avian Education Society (W.A.E.S.) and Shahravar are pleased to announce 5th annual “Belly Dance for the Birds”, a Middle Eastern dance showcase and fundraiser for avian education along the Wasatch Front on Saturday, May, 31st 2014 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 at the historic Post Theater (University of Utah campus, 245 South Fort Douglas Boulevard, Bldg 636).

The event will feature some of Utah’s top professional belly dancers including Shahravar her students, Shah Sitara, dancer Susan Kelley, past president and current member of W.A.E.S. Traditional Tahitian performance by Leilani Tonga, Hot hula instructor. Chinese dance arts by Cora Lazlade. The evening also features shimmering veils, singing cymbals, dynamic swords and a fantastic variety of inspiring performances. There will be a silent auction for an assortment of gift baskets, gift certificates, artwork by Jesse Allen and local artists. Participants can see live birds before the show and learn how to adopt and about the care of our feathered friends. Special Eco-friendly accessories and jewelry, with cruelty free feathers, can be purchased as well. Tickets for the event are $10.00 and will be available at, or at the door the night of the show. All proceeds go to Wasatch Avian Education Society.

Wasatch Avian Education Society is a registered nonprofit organization in the State of Utah, located in the Salt Lake City area. 2014 marks the 20th year of service to the community and the exotic birds that are so much a part of our lives. They are dedicated to the study and keeping of birds, with an emphasis on having parrots as pets. They also offer rescue and adoption services. W.A.E.S. has monthly meetings to which the public is invited. The meetings are typically held the second Saturday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in room 1100N of the Salt Lake County Building.

Shahravar is celebrating her 23rd year in Belly Dance. She began studying and performing Middle-Eastern Dance styles in 1991. Her dance background includes Egyptian Cabaret, Turkish, American Tribal, Swords and veils. Urban Arts Fitness and Dance Studio will be vending at the show. Urban Arts located at 25 East Kensington Salt Lake City, UT 84115. features Belly Dance, Yoga, Zumba, Hula, Pilates classes and more, as well as a Boutique featuring local artists and filled with lots of dance and fitness goodies.
