The Echo Theatre presents Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods.
Lapine and Sondheim's popular musical of fractured fairy tales comes to Provo this July and August. The musical, a crowd favorite for over thirty years, is sure to delight audiences once again on The Echo Theatre's intimate stage.
Into the Woods tells the story of a group of people who enter the woods to their wishes, only to learn that "wishes come true, not free". The musical includes familiar fairy tale characters like Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and Jack and the Beanstalk, and also introduces the childless Baker and his Wife, who must break a Witch's curse in order to have a child. As new characters are mixed in with the familiar, surprising twists are bound to happen. This is something that director Melissa Leilani Larson enjoys about the show: "What I love about Into the Woods is that it so cleverly takes something as familiar as fairy tales and twists them just a little, making them even funnier and scarier that we remember, all the while making the morals at the core of these stories that much more applicable to real life."
Filled with beautiful music, humor, and magic, The Echo Theatre's production of Into the Woods is not to be missed. The play will be presented July 18th through August 23rd on select evenings. Visit www.theechotheatre.com for more information.
