The American West Chamber Singers will be performing another exciting and varied program of choral music at the Community of Grace Presbyterian Church in Sandy.
The major piece on the program will be Michael Haydn's Requiem in C, written in Salzburg in 1771 for the funeral Mass of Archbishop Sigismund Count Schrattenbach and less than one year after the tragic death of Haydn's ten-month old daughter. It is said that the young Mozart and his father attended the service and that it served as a model for Mozart's own Requiem. The piece will feature special guest soloists Christy Peterson, Asha Crandall, Jonah Hoskins and Christopher Stockslager from Westminster College Department of Music.
Other works on the program include choral music celebrating Spring. The performance will be under the baton of Tyler Kofoed, the Director of the Chamber Singers and Chorus Master of the American West Chorus. Accompanying the Singers will be pianist Donna Johnson.
The American West Chamber Singers, part of the American Symphony and Chorus of Sandy, is a volunteer community group of approximately 30 dedicated singers sponsored by the Sandy Arts Guild with additional support from Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts and Parks (ZAP), Utah Division of Arts and Museums and other generous donors.
Tickets, $10 for adults, $8 for students, $5 for youth 7-15 years old, will be available at the door.
