Teach one?Reach many. With that motto IVUmed, founded in 1995, is dedicated to making available surgical care that will improve the lives of children in developing countries. In fulfilling this mission, they provide treatment to thousands of suffering children as well as surgical education to physicians and nurses. To date, IVUMed has sent over 175 medical missions to twenty countries. To encourage the self-reliance of partner communities abroad, they introduce new and appropriate surgical practices and technology which can be sustained in the local communities. Inspired by the vision of IVUmed?s founder and president, Dr. Catherine deVries, IVUmed has been involved in overseas surgical service and teaching since 1992. In the early years, prior to its independent incorporation as a nonprofit organization, IVUmed partnered with Interplast for pediatric urological reconstructive surgery. However, many of the urological conditions addressed by IVUmed fell outside the scope of Interplast?s mission. Therefore, IVUmed was founded to address the urological reconstructive needs of children. IVUmed is committed to making quality urological care available to people worldwide. In fulfilling this mission, IVUmed provides medical and surgical education to physicians and nurses and treatment to thousands of suffering children and adults.
