Ellingson, an architect and watercolorist originally from Wisconsin, was a graduate of the University of Utah where was awarded a BFA in architecture and music, and an MFA in painting. He was a “cool” jazz pianist, music company executive, an architectural theorist, with an intellectual approach to his painting.
