Arlene Van Dyke Braithwaite, a Utah native, has been an artist and arts educator for over 30 years. She earned degrees at the University of Utah (BFA 1974, M Ed, 1977) and has been a member of the art faculty at Southern Utah University in Cedar City since 1978. She works with the figure, and landscape, and is best known for her depictions of the Southern Utah desert. She prefers to work in pastels and uses a realistic style to render the landscape with almost photographic accuracy. Inspired by the dramatic scenery, Braithwaite strives to convey her fascination with and awe of the natural environment to the viewer. In addition to her skill as an artist, she is a highly regarded teacher.
