Mae Pendergast was born in Florida, and raised on a small farm in the mountains of Appalachia. In 1993, she completed work for a BFA in illustration at Columbus College of Art in Ohio. After five years in the film industry as a conceptual designer, she moved to the mountains in Utah to paint full-time. Since then she has lived and painted in Seattle, with sojourns in Malawi, Haiti and Bangladesh. Pendergast maintains ties with Utah, in part through gallery representation in Park City and Salt Lake.
