A prominent member of the first generation of Utah modernist artists, Everett Clarke Thorpe was born in Providence, Utah. His art studies, which began at Utah State in Logan (where he also taught for over 40 years), and continued throughout his life. His teachers included Utahns Calvin Fletcher and LeConte Stewart, and internationally known modern artists George Grosz and Hans Hoffman. His painting style evolved from Regionalist (reminiscent of Thomas Hart Benton) in the 1930s to abstract in the 1950s.
