Largely self-taught as an artist, Boyd Reese was born in Ogden and spent much of his time on the streets in downtown Salt Lake City. The artist suffered from alcoholism, which contributed to his already troubled life. Reese painted genre, figure, and architectural subjects, but never really established a professional career. Reese befriended the staff of the Utah Arts Council, and several of his paintings are in the State’s Fine Art Collection. The artist died in his late fifties after collapsing in an Ogden hotel room.
