Francis R. Magleby was an art professor and professional artist. Originally from Idaho Falls, he went to Brigham Young University on a football scholarship, where he earned both his BFA and MFA degrees. Magleby continued his studies as a fine artist and educator, attending the Art Students League in New York City and earned his doctorate from Columbia University. In 1959, he joined the faculty at BYU and taught for thirty-three years, retiring in 1991. He completed some important mural project, including those at the LDS Temple in Los Angeles.
