Weaver and teacher John Hess’ emphasis on color in his weaving began at the Schaeffer School of Design in San Francisco. He was also influenced by prehistoric Mayan and Toltec ruins he studied in Mexico. His public commissions are many, and include the Utah State Tax Commission, College of Eastern Utah; West Valley Library, the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, Salt Lake City International Airport. Hess views the art of weaving as is a slow, meditative process that leads to creative freedom.
