Decades since his passing, Don Olsen remains one of the most important modernist artists in Utah. Originally from Provo, Utah, he graduated from Brigham Young University in 1935 with a B.S. degree in music, then in 1952 he began to study art at the University of Utah, and then with Hans Hofmann in Provincetown, Massachusetts. He became an influential high school art teacher and artist.
