Born in Langnau, Switzerland, Kuhni came to Midway, Utah, as an eleven-year-old. He earned a B.S. degree in art at BYU in 1932. His medium was oil on canvas, and he specialized in landscape themes. Kuhni was an instructor at Utah schools in Heber, Bingham, Midvale, and Sandy, and at the Pioneer Craft House in Salt Lake City, for the Brigham Young University continuing education program.
