Gary Kapp was born in Ogden, Utah. He graduated from Brigham Young University in art in 1966. He then worked for a motion picture studio, illustrating film strips, visualizing movies, and painting backdrops, but in 1976 left commercial work to paint and sculpt full-time. He employs Western themes, particularly American Indian and trapper. His work is shown in galleries in Utah and the West. He was a member of the now defunct Northwest Rendezvous Group.
