New York-born Joseph Marotta studied English at the State University in Albany and then studied photography at Arizona State University, where he earned an MFA. In 1978, Marotta joined the faculty of the Department of Art and the University of Utah and served as art department chair from 1988-1993. He continues to teach photography at the University and exhibits his own work on occasion. Marotta’s interest in the concept of time and fragmentation is reflected in his large-scale photographic collages.
