Mark Bangerter was a figure painter and teacher born in Monroe, Utah. A resident of Salt Lake City and Cedar City, Utah, he studied at the University of Utah and earned an MFA there in 1982. In 1986 he began teaching painting at Southern Utah University’s art department; a position he held for several years.
